Understanding Apostolic Terminology

With each move of God, there is a corresponding release of spiritual vocabulary that helps us understand the spiritual truths and revelations that are being restored to the church. These are words given by the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:13). In other words, we need spiritual words in order to understand spiritual truths. The words need not be mystical, but they must be able to convey the truths that the Holy Spirit is emphasizing in the church. This is true concerning the apostolic movement. There are many words being used to help us understand the present truth of the restoration of apostolic ministry.

This dictionary defines many concepts and words that are common in the apostolic movement. However, all apostles are not the same, and there are differences that must be received, appreciated, and understood by the church. Understanding the basic characteristics of true apostles will help us to test those who claim apostleship.
